Branding is important in getting your book seen on TV. This is a good way to get publicity, connect with readers and get more book sales. Branding covers everything from looks, how to interview, overall image—things viewed by the public and that build a brand. It’s important to have a strong and definitive branding concept when promoting a book.

Good branding will get you on television. This is especially important when doing a book tour. Not many writers get a chance to appear on television unless the book is a best seller or unique. TV show producers and other media are always looking for interesting and unique TV personalities. Good branding follows with television show producers wanting TV appearances. There is a demand for quality radio and television guests. Just match the needs of what television producers are looking for and success is around the corner.

  • Write a controversial or unique book to get attention. My book, Sugar Daddy 101 got tons of attention which led to TV bookings, just on the title alone.
  • Have a unique slant when giving interviews. Be consistent at every interview to solidify your brand. Example: Everyone expected me to interview like a bimbo. But, I kept my interviews funny, light, and talked about women getting an education and starting businesses by having a sugar daddy. The media loved this spin and buzz was created.
  • Approach casting directors for reality TV show appearances. Even if not booked as a cast member, getting a cameo or guest spot will lead to book sales.
  • Hire a publicist with talk show connections to get television exposure.
  • Comment on top celebrity gossip to make yourself an “expert.” This can lead to appearances on VH1, MTV, and other television networks as an expert on a panel. Then you can promote your book. I was booked on VH1 TV show about celebrity sugar daddies because I was the only expert with a book about the sugar daddy lifestyle.
  • Produce an internet video show and post on Youtube. Show producers search on there for potential guests.
  • Produce an Internet radio show and send clips to a television show producer.
  • Start debates on various online forums. I had a heated debate with an editor of a popular law school review after he said horrible things about me. It got media attention since this appeared on his popular blog.
  • Attend major book expo events in L.A. and sign books. Shows interview book writers on the spot at these events.
  • Be consistent with image when interviewing. My looks were integral to creating my brand. My hair, makeup and clothes were always tasteful and sexy, which was in sync with the topic of my book.
